     It’s your responsibility, and HIPAA and CMS guidelines do not allow for wiggle room.In fact, the Health Information Technology for Economic and Clinical Health Act (HITECH), effective as of February 2009, includes four levels of penalties, with a maximum fine of $1,500,000. Previously, the maximum fine was $100 per violation and $25,000 for all violations of the same provision.
