Healthcare Business and Technology Consulting

HITEC is a North Carolina-based health information technology and business consulting firm.  We partner with small to medium sized healthcare organizations.  The business and the industry in which our customers operate are unique, with distinct business needs that may or may not be shared by businesses in the same or other industries.

Healthcare companies are faced with the complexity and high costs associated with securing, managing and distributing highly personal and often confidential consumer information. And every decision made, transaction processed and communication delivered is guided by the scrutiny of the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act and the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid.

In the end, the reliability, security, availability and cost-effective performance of IT resources are a critical business imperative for every healthcare provider.

We know these issues well from serving so many healthcare clients. Our client’s challenges no doubt look a lot like yours:

  • Risk Management

Your patient data and transactions must be secure, both from prying eyes and from actual loss. Because of this, IT resources and information assets must be physically protected and professionally managed, as well as encrypted and password-protected.

  • Disaster Recovery & Business Continuity

Extended downtime is not an option. Therefore, failover systems must be in place, ensuring that hardware, applications and data are available to your staff, so that business operations can resume post haste.

  • HIPAA & HITECH Regulations

It’s your responsibility, and HIPAA and CMS guidelines do not allow for wiggle room.In fact, the Health Information Technology for Economic and Clinical Health Act (HITECH), effective as of February 2009, includes four levels of penalties, with a maximum fine of $1,500,000. Previously, the maximum fine was $100 per violation and $25,000 for all violations of the same provision.

  • High Availability

It’s a must. It’s beyond discussion. For this reason we deliver ready access to the same set of applications, communication tools and data, regardless of where you or your staff are working, and regardless of which computer they’re on.  Real-time healthcare information for corporate and remote professionals can not be anything less than a given.

  • Affordability

The healthcare industry, more than any other, is now being seriously challenged to control costs. Happily, this is one of the great advantages of cloud computing. Until now, reducing or eliminating capital expenditures for new hardware and software was only a dream. Waking up in the morning to fixed, monthly IT costs, was rarely more than a fantasy. Not any more.

  • Productivity

Knowledge workers, sales professionals and management staff all need the capability to connect to applications, and access data quickly and easily.  Often, they need to collaborate and access the same information. They also need to work with a consistent, yet customizable user experience, regardless of computer or location.
